Nick Lentini and Gloria Mercado-Fortine were named 2018 Santa Clarita Valley Man and Woman of the Year at the annual recognition dinner Friday evening in Valencia.

This year marked the 54th recognition event for volunteers who have given outstanding charitable service to the SCV.

Mercado-Fortine was nominated for her volunteer work with Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers Inc.

 

“This is unbelievable,” said Mercado-Fortine.

Gloria Mercado-Fortine is CEO/President of Global Education Solutions, Inc., an educational leadership consultancy. GES works with school organizations undertaking leadership and cultural transformations. Gloria has extensive experience as an educational and community leader. She has been a powerful advocate for education and a role model for thousands of young people and women in both her professional and personal life. During her 37-year career in education she has served as teacher, counselor, principal, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent/President in large urban school districts.

Following high school graduation, Gloria enrolled at California State University Northridge where she earned her undergrad degree. She continued her education at Pepperdine University, graduating with Master of Science degrees in school management and administration. Her 30-year career in education included positions as a teacher, counselor, principal and assistant superintendent in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Gloria has been a passionate advocate for education and a role model for young people, both in her professional and personal life.
